"The Seven Wonders of the World"

"The Seven Wonders of the World"

The Seven Wonders of the World can refer to two different lists: the Ancient Wonders (seven famous structures from ancient times) and the New Seven Wonders of the World (modern wonders chosen in a global poll).

The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World:

These were considered the most impressive structures of the ancient world. Most of them no longer exist:

  1. The Great Pyramid of Giza (Egypt) – The only one still standing. A real blast from the past.
  2. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon (Iraq) – No one's quite sure if they ever existed, but they sound amazing.
  3. The Statue of Zeus at Olympia (Greece) – A massive statue of the big fella himself, Zeus.
  4. The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus (Turkey) – A huge temple, lost to history but legendary in its day.
  5. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus (Turkey) – A tomb so fancy, it became a wonder.
  6. The Colossus of Rhodes (Greece) – A giant statue of the sun god, standing tall in the harbour.
  7. The Lighthouse of Alexandria (Egypt) – A lighthouse that was basically the Google Maps of the ancient world, guiding ships safely in.
